To be eligible, students must be 15 years old by the departure date have completed their freshman year of high school, and submit a teacher recommendation. Novice language learners are accepted. PATA encourages students who have studied other languages to consider immersion in Spanish.

Academic Information:
Classes are held Monday-Friday.
Classes are taught by the
staff of the Centro de Idiomas Excel.
Curriculum includes:
History, Culture, and Conversational Spanish.
Students receive
60 contact hours on a CIE transcript which, when presented to their receiving university with a portfolio of their course work, may be used to petition up to 4 hours of college credit.
Organized excursions provide a mobile culture classroom.
Day 1....Depart for Peru.
Day 2....Arrive in Cuzco. Take an orientation tour.
Day 3....Relax and get to know your homestay family.
Days 4-8....Regular classes at Centro de Idiomas Excel.
Day 9....Run the Urubamba River's class 2 and 3 rapids.
Day 10....Enjoy the traditional market at Pisac and visit the fortress of Ollantaytambo.
Days 11-15....Regular classes at Centro de Idiomas Excel.
Days 16-17....Take a 2-day camping trek on the Inca trail to the lost city of Machu Picchu. Relax the next day in the hot baths of Aguas Calientes.
Days 18-22....Regular classes at Centro de Idiomas Excel.
Day 23....Fly to Arequipa, continue on to Colca Canyon.
Day 24....Watch for condors and explore what may be the world's deepest canyon.
Day 25....Return to Arequipa. Visit the mysterious Monastario de Santa Catalina.
Day 26....Travel to Lima. Enjoy a horse and carriage ride in the centro historico. Visit the Museo de la Nacion, then fly home with your memories of Peru.
