SUMMER STUDY ABROAD
Adventure in San Jose, Costa Rica

Prerequisite:
To be eligible, students must be 15 years old by the departure date,
have completed their freshman year and have a teacher recommendation.
Novice Spanish students are encouraged to participate.


Program Information:
Classes are held Monday - Thursday.
Students receive 60 contact hours on a language institute
transcript which, when presented to their receiving university with a portfolio of their

course work, maybe used to petition up to 4 hours of college credit.
Organized adventure ecotours provide a mobile culture classroom.


ITINERARY
Days 1-4. . . . Depart for Costa Rica. Arrive in San Jose for your transfer to the mountain lodge at Rincón de la Vieja National Park. Hike through areas of geothermal activity (geysers, fumaroles, bubbling mud pits, hot springs), visit waterfalls, dry and rain forests, take an exhilarating tree top canopy ropes course, and a horseback ride to sulfuric hot springs. On Sunday, return to San Jose to meet your host family.

Days 5-8 . . .Regular classes at the CRLA.
Days 9-11. . .Depart for the amazing, active Arenal Volcano. Bathe in
naturally heated pools and waterfalls while experiencing the thundering
vibrations and breath-taking fireworks of the volcano.
 
Days 12-15. . . .Regular classes at the CRLA.

Day 16-18. . . Boat through the jungle lagoons of Tortuguero National Park. Share your adventure with turtles, monkeys, iguanas, crocodiles, and tropical birds.
 
Days 19-22. . . Regular classes at the CRLA.

Days 23-25. . . . Visit the beautiful Pacific coast town of Manuel Antonio.
Hike in Manuel Antonio National Park, visit the village of Quepos and the
Gaia Wildlife Rescue Center, and explore spectacular beaches.

Day 26. . . Spend the morning on the beach, then return to San Jose.

Day 27. . . . Fly home with your memories of Costa Rica.

Your Costa Rican Adventure
This unique PATA program is designed to expand interest in the language
and culture of Costa Rica and to create an awareness of environmental
concerns affecting the entire planet, specifically the conservation of
Costa Rican rainforests and endangered species.
In addition to accomplishing educational and environmental objectives, this
program is designed to be a pleasurable vacation for
the students. Some of the activities include sightseeing, nature hikes,
visits to jungles, hot springs, volcanoes and wildlife preserves, a
rainforest canopy ropes course, horseback riding, and hours of free time to
enjoy the parks, towns, and beaches of Costa Rica.
